The mission of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Illinois State University is to sponsor National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletics programs, characterized by excellence, equally for men and women.
The Department will hold the concept of the student-athlete at the highest priority and center efforts on producing graduates who are successful, well-rounded individuals prepared to make a positive contribution to society.
The Department is committed to providing equitable opportunities for all of its student-athletes and staff, and will work to be a leader in areas of ethics, equity, diversity and integrity.
In addition, it will act on the values set forth in Illinois State University's strategic plan, Educating Illinois an Action Plan for Distinctiveness and Excellence, by honoring Illinois State's values-based commitment to creating an optimal living and learning environment for all students.
Excellence in intercollegiate athletics will be determined by academic and athletic achievements as well as the development of character, maturity and good sportsmanship.
Student-athletes will be provided the opportunity to achieve the highest standards through the best preparation and support. The mission includes engendering pride and tradition for the University among students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and friends at all levels of interest.
The Department will subscribe fully to the philosophy and regulations set forth by the NCAA, the NCAA Certification Operating Principles and conference affiliations.
The Department will also function within the fiscal regulations and non-discriminatory procedures established by Illinois State University and its Board of Trustees.
